The two remaining financial literacy workshops organized through a partnership between OLA (Organización Latino Americana) of Eastern Long Island and Whitmores are scheduled for Thursday, March 21, and Tuesday, April 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The remaining two workshops will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Hoie Hall, 18 James Lane in East Hampton. All workshops are free of charge, open to the public, and offered in Spanish and English. Advanced registration is required and may be done by calling OLA at 631-899-3441.
“We were excited to collaborate with Mariah Whitmore to structure these workshops that allow OLA to bring together area experts on topics that are most important to our workforce,” said Minerva Perez, executive director of OLA. “We have recently completed a similar series with funding and support from M&T Bank. The desire to gain deeper insight into banking, savings, credit card consolidation, investments, and retirement have all been presented as key areas of interest for our community.”
Perez went on to highlight the meaningful and lasting impact that these kinds of mutually beneficial partnerships have on the community at large. “Whitmores reached out to OLA seeking an opportunity to honor their workforce with education. This is a direct and positive move for our entire region. When the working people who keep our community thriving gain further financial literacy around healthy savings practices, readying children for college, planning for retirement, and building generational wealth, we all benefit, providing an immediate and priceless return on investment by way of a prosperous and compassionate community. We are hopeful that other employers will follow this model. OLA stands ready to partner so that we can continue to offer valuable tools, resources, and trainings across the East End.”
